Equal-ratio breathing (sama vritti) activates the sympathetic nervous system without tipping into stress. The faster 6-second cycle increases respiratory rate, which raises heart rate, skin conductance, and alertness. Research (Harbour et al., 2022) confirms sympathetic upregulation begins at 30–45 seconds.
